Junior League Baltimore: A Legacy of Leadership

Baltimore portrait photographer

The Junior League of Baltimore, Inc. is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. Seventy-seven women have served as president of JLB since 1912, including Oana Brooks, who held the office from 2106-17. Oana is no stranger to leadership. She is the founder of the boutique law firm Brooks Law LLC. She is also Chair of the Advisory Board of the Women of the World Festival (WOW), presented by Notre Dame of Maryland University.

I met Oana when she contacted me for a headshot she needed when she was named one of Maryland’s “Top 100 Women” by The Daily Record. We recently captured her portrait for the gallery of past presidents of the JLB. This gallery appears in their headquarters, and features lovely black and white portraits dating from 1913 onward. When I viewed the gallery, I was struck by the names of famous Baltimore photographers like David Bachrach and Leonard Grief. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to create an image that would commemorate Oana’s service to the organization. You can view a decade by decade history of JLB at JLBalt.org, including a list of all previous presidents.
