Vickie Gray Images’ Studio at Meadow Mill
Visit our 1100 square foot studio at 3600 Clipper Mill Road in historic Meadow Mill, in the Woodberry/Hampden neighborhood. You may recognize the distinctive tower atop the building, which can be seen from I-83 traveling into the city.
Meadow Mill was built by industrialist William E. Hooper in 1877 during one of the most prosperous periods for industry in the Jones Falls Valley. Over the next century, workers at Meadow Mill manufactured twine, lamp wicks, and cotton duck (a heavy canvas used primarily for ship sails).
In 1960, Meadow Mill was sold to Londontown Manufacturing Company, the makers of London Fog Raincoats. Company founder Israel Meyers started in the outerwear business in the 1920s and popularized military-style trench coats for civilians. London Fog went on to become the leading men’s raincoat manufacturer of the 1960s and 1970s. Some of you may remember that London Fog was a client of the Sterling Cooper agency in “Mad Men.” There are giant mural-sized photos of London Fog ads in the hallways as you enter the building.
The popular Spanish restaurant La Cuchara Baltimore is located next door to my new studio. I’ve adjusted my appointment hours to take advantage of their happy hour specials after work.
